In 2006 Thailand was selected as a Composite Depth Market for the New Zealand international education industry. In mid 2009, Education New Zealand developed the New Zealand Specialist Agent Group for Thailand to provide a means by which effective agents can easily be identified by students and industry. At the same time, it aims to increase the effectiveness and commitment of those Agents promoting New Zealand education.

Thailand's Market Profile has been made available online and can assist with the setting of marketing strategies and decision making around event attendance. The latest Visa and Export Education Levy Statistics are sourced from The Department of Labour and The Ministry of Education respectively and are available on the Statistics page.

OEC InternatioImage_39nal Education Fair, Chiang Mai, 6 November 2011  This is the 4th annual event hosted by OEC Global Education, a New Zealand Specialist Agent.  This fair provided a valuable opportunity for us to promote New Zealand as an education destination to the students and parents in Chiang Mai.  The fair attracted about 200 students and their parents, ranging from high school to university students.  New Zealand ranked 4th in the list of countries of interest from attendees, after UK, USA and Australia.  22 institutions from around the world were represented at the fair, including 2 PTEs from New Zealand, along with the generic New Zealand education booth.

 

IMG_940925th TIECA Study Expo, 1-2 October 2011  The Thai International Education Consultants Association (TIECA) hosted its 25th study expo in early October, with support from 47 institutions worldwide including 4 New Zealand high schools. While approximately 1000 students registered for the event, approximately 1,500 actually attended, is an increase of over 75% from the 850 visitors to last year's event.  This is a reflection of market potential and increasing demand and interest in overseas study opportunities for Thai students.  Seminars for students and an evening cocktail reception for representatives were part of the programme. New Zealand Education had a booth representing education opportunities in New Zealand, and gave a 30 minutes seminar on Saturday to students and parents.

The Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) is the central agency in charge of advising public sectors in managing human resources and protecting merit system practices of the civil service. Every year, the OCSC organises the major tertiary focussed education fair in Thailand, it is supported by the Thai government. It is the largest education fair in Thailand attracting around 30,000 visitors, including students and parents.  A small New Zealand pavilion, including a few tertiary providers, has been arranged.

It was the first time Victoria University of Wellington held an alumni party in Thailand since 2006, 50 enthusiastic alumni attended the event. His Excellency Bede Corry, New Zealand Ambassador to Thailand, Vice-Chancellor Professor Pat Walsh, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Rob Rabel, and Executive Director of Development and the Foundation, Shelagh Murray joined the event at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok

Education New Zealand was involved in a New Zealand Embassy project which was led by MFAT and the Thai Rugby Union, the function was a cocktail reception to celebrate the Rugby World Cup 2011, it was held at the Renaissance Hotel. The reception showcased New Zealand wine and food and highlighted New Zealand's strong links with Thailand across education, tourism, and trade. It also aimed to build New Zealand's profile and provide confidence for Thai people to travel to New Zealand. The Rugby World Cup sponsors and partners that supported the evening were DHL, Emirates, Heineken, Pernod Richard and Blackberry.  These companies were also key supporters of the Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand, and their generous support was instrumental in ensuring that the event could also be celebrated in Thailand. A total of 272 people attended, including media, Embassy staff and guests from government, diplomacy, business and social organisations. Vajiravudh College not only attended but also arranged for its 1st 15 team to perform the Haka during the opening of the reception.

A New Zealand Education promotional supplement was distributed with the 22 July edition of the Bangkok Post.  The Bangkok Post has a large readership, estimated at 420,000 daily.   The supplement can be viewed online HERE A Study in New Zealand advertisement, using the New Zealand Educated brand value 'Trusted' was part of the promotion. Independent Press Agency, Global Reports, coordinated the supplement.

23 agents from 19 agencies attended the renewal on 12 July, all agencies passed the renewal criteria. 46 agents from 31 agencies attended the training on 13 July and are in progress of accreditation.

A triptych of panels makes up one large 1.2m high by 9m wide banner promoting New Zealand Education.  The phrase "For high quality education ... Study in New Zealand" is used in the banner, which will feature for 2 months at 16 BTS Stations in Bangkok.  Images of Tertiary and High School students also feature in the promotion, as does the www.newzealandeducated.com URL.  More than 620,000 passengers ride the Mass Transit System per day.

A day Magazine has a print run of 150,000, the magazines are distributed throughout Bangkok.

 

 

 

Sth_Sem_for_webSouthland Agent Workshops - Chiang Mai & Bangkok, 29 March & 1 April 2011
Agent Workshops were held in late March in Chiang Mai and in early April in Bangkok for to help develop  relationships with Thai agents. Six agencies attended the workshop in Chiang Mai and 19 in Bangkok.   In addition to the workshops, a parents seminar and visits to partner schools were also organised by ENZ.  The participating schools were Central Southland College, Fiordland College, James Hargest College, St Peter's College – Gore, Southland Boys High School, Southland Girls High School, and Waihopai School, in partnership with Venture Southland.

PR_webPR Contract, March - July 2011
Idea Works Communications in Bangkok have been contracted for a five month retainer to manage PR and promotions work for New Zealand Educated in Thailand.  Their work will focus on a communications strategy which will include responsibility for holding media briefings, writing media releases, undertaking news monitoring and ensuring New Zealand education is well publised in Thailand's media.  Idea Works have experience in working with British Council and international brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut and 7Eleven.

A New Zealand Seminar to prepare Thai students soon heading down to New Zealand for a study tour program has been planned.  Approximately 300 parents and students are expected to attend.  This event is in association with five Thai NZSA agents; Hearts & Minds, Im Education, Kiwi Centre, NZ Study and Scholar Guide. The Seminar will be held at Krung Thai Bank.

This fair is an annual event hosted by OEC Global Education, a New Zealand Specialist Agent. This fair provided a valuable opportunity for us to promote New Zealand as an education destination to the students and parents in Chiang Mai.  The fair attracted students ranging from high school to university along with their parents.

New Zealand Education was generically promoted alongside 3 New Zealand universities at this tertiary focused event.  Most visitors had already obtained their bachelor degree and were seeking options for Masters level study.  20,660 visitors were recorded over the two days.  New Zealand had a 15 minute presentation on both days.

New Zealand Education was generically represented at the small Study Abroad Fair held at Mahidol University International College Over 32 institutions from many countries participated, about 500 Mahidol University students attended this half a day fair.

Young Future Leader Feature Articles, May 2010
Articles interviewing representatives of the 30 participating students who attended the Young Future Leader camp appeared in the leading newspaper Thai Post and on 3 news websites, www.siamrath.co.th , Thailand Forum and ThaiPost.net .  The estimated readership of these articles is 2,375,000

Young Future Leader Camp, 27 - 30 April 2010
As part of the Young Future Leader campaign promotion, 30 secondary and tertiary students from throughout Thailand were selected to participate in a 3 day camp at PB Valley Khao Yai Winery Resort to learn and develop leadership skills through various activities including English language skills, with the aim of becoming New Zealand education opinion leader in the market.  The promotion of this event and associated PR value enabled New Zealand education to be profiled widely in Thailand.


TIECA

24th Annual TIECA Study Abroad Expo, Bangkok, 3 & 4 April 2010
Organised by the Thai International Education Consultants Association (TIECA), this fair was held for two days at a hotel in central Bangkok.   Seminars for students and evening functions for representatives were part of the programme. A generic New Zealand education booth represented New Zealand at the fair.  Over 50 institutions from 11 countries participated, approximately 850 students and parents attended over the two days.

Education Link - Chiang Mai & Southland, 25 March 2010
A meeting was held in late March to establish a relationship between  the regions of Southland and Chiang Mai. The Mayor of Chiang Mai, Mr Tassanai Booranoopakorn, attended the meeting, it is hoped that student exchanges will be established between the two regions.

Young Future Leader Press Conference, 16 March 2010
A press conference to launch the Young Future Leader promotional campaign was held in mid March at the New Zealand Natural Ice Cream Outlet in Central World Bangkok.  New Zealand Ambassador, Bede Corry, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education in Thailand, Mr Vinai Rodjai attended as guests of honour.  Media journalists from 15 outlets attended, 7 newspapers, 5 magazines, 2 television stations and a radio station.  Articles then appeared 18 times in newspapers, in 3 magazines and online.  The total media view by print run was 5,118,575 and the estimate number of readers was 9,497,161.  The promotion was mentioned on "Fat Radio", "Virgin" and "Hot Wave" radio stations, the total audience for these stations is 883,000 listeners per day.

Pre-departure Seminars, 20 February & 6 & 21 March 2010
Three pre-departure days for students travelling to New Zealand for English plus programmes during their summer holidays were held in late February and early March.  12 New Zealand Specialist Agents and 455 students and parents attended.  The events not only supported agents who promote study in New Zealand by endorsing their programmes, but enabled us to prepare those about to depart for New Zealand.

Feature Articles, February & April 2010
This article featured prior to the Thai school holidays, when Thai students are looking for short English plus activities programmes abroad.  The article promotes New Zealand as the best destination for a study plus programme, it featured in a weekly education newspaper, Student Weekly and five daily newspapers Siamrath, Siam Thurakij, Krungthep Thurakij, Ban Muang and ASTV Manager. The total print run of these papers is 670,000 and the total estimate readership is 1,540,000.  The article promoted www.newzealandeducated.com and the New Zealand Specialist Agents.

Feature Articles, February - March 2010
A few articles promoting opportunities to study in New Zealand featured in two daily newspapers, Thai Post and The Nation, a weekly newspaper called Prachachat Thurakij and a website blog.eduzones.com .  In total, the print run of these papers combined is 517,000 and the readership is estimated to be approximately 1,000,000.

Feature Article, 18 January 2010
The Nation newspaper is one of the most popular English newspapers in Thailand with a print run of 80,000 and an estimate readership of 400,000, the paper ran a feature article based on an interview about New Zealand education.  The main focus was on increasing links between New Zealand and Thai institutes and the growing opportunity to study in New Zealand.

Articles promoting the New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) were featured in the weekly education newspapers Education Today and Education Update as well as within the Education section of the daily newspapers Naew Na and Kom Chad Luk.  The two daily newspapers have a combined total print run of 1,420,000 and a total estimated readership of 3,457,000.  This activity is part of the overall promotion in Thailand to increase the knowledge about study opportunities in New Zealand, and maintain market profile and awareness for New Zealand education.

A feature article will be published in the Music & Art Magazine, which has a print run of  50,000 per month. OECFair2OEC International Education Fair, November 2009
The 2nd Annual International Education Fair was organized by one of New Zealand Specialist Agents, OEC Global Education (OEC) Chiang Mai Office. The objective of this fair was to provide valuable opportunities for New Zealand to promote, gain access and exposure to the key target markets, the students and parents, in the northern part of Thailand. The fair was successfully organized and promoted with more than 200 students, most of which were tertiary and secondary students, and parents attending this year. There was a presence of 19 booths from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and USA.

The 23rd TIECA Study Abroad EXPO was organised by the Thai International Education Consultants Association (TIECA) and held in Bangkok. TIECA was formed by a group of educational agents to share their expertise and raise the standard of practice and services rendered to students and international institutions. TIECA has been organising annual education fairs in March and November. Seminars for students and evening functions for representatives are part of the programme. A generic New Zealand education booth represented New Zealand at the fair. Visitors: 1,314 students and parents over two days.

Central School Roadshow, 13 August & 19 - 20 November 2009
The Central/East Schools Road Show is part of the Schools Road Show Project initiative to promote studying in New Zealand across Thailand.  Cities visited included Nokhonpathom, Samutprakarn, Chantaburi and Chonburi.  Altogether 7 schools were visited with a New Zealand Specialist Agent based in the east of Thailand. The largest presentation was to a group of 500 students.

Northeast School Roadshow, Khon Kaen, 15 & 16 July 2009
The Northeast Schools Road Show was part fo the Schools Road Show Project initiate to promote studying in New Zealand across Thailand.  Presentations were held at four schools alongside two education agents.  Meetings were held with school staff and presentations about Studying in New Zealand were given to large halls of students.
