NACAC 2007 Boston

The National Association for College Admissions Counselling (NACAC) fairs is a series of fairs located in over 40 US cities.

The fairs are targeted at secondary students considering a tertiary education. Fairs typically average 350-400 institutions which are predominantly US universities. However, Canadian,British, Irish, Australian, and Italian universities also attend.

On 10 -11 April 2007 Education New Zealand attended its first NACAC fair in Boston, with the aim of investigating the value of this fair series.

NACAC and local organisers sent information about the fairs to over 550 local secondary school guidance offices.

Over the two day 11,764 students were bused in to the fair, typically from Grade 11 (equivalent to New Zealand’s Grade 12). In the evenings parents also were welcome to attend.

Students sensed a need to study overseas to gain international experience for the global market place. Enquiries focused around programme offerings, class and campus sizes as well as different institutions strengths and weaknesses. There were also more general tourism queries about New Zealand.

There were prohibitive rules around the use of promotional giveaways, but 3 boxes of the 2007 University Directory 2007 and 1 box of the 2007 Handbook were distributed.
