Policy Advocacy on behalf of industry is a vital core function for Education New Zealand. Advocacy takes many forms, including offering comment, critique and advice on existing or proposed policy and legislation and ensuring that the broad industry perspective is known and understood by Ministers, officials, politicians and other industry influencers on the wide range of issues that directly or indirectly affect the industry. ENZ have also acted as a mechanism for Government and Departmental pan industry consultation. This does not compromise ENZ’s industry perspective, but is a practical recognition of ENZ’s pan industry reach and allows for efficient dialogue between industry and Government. ENZ also has a key role in public liaison and ensuring that factual and timely information is available and accessible to the media. ENZ maintains good relations with the media, and is a first point of reference for pan industry issues. ENZ has taken the lead on strategy development for the industry, culminating in the publication of the revised Pan Industry Strategy in 2007. ENZ also frequently represents the industry at various Government-to-Government events both within New Zealand and offshore. Virtually every day, ENZ is liaising formally or informally with Government Ministers, officials and departments, other political interests, the media, stakeholder groups and offshore interests in support of international education in New Zealand. ENZ is very much the Champion for ‘NZ Inc’ public policy (and implementation) that promotes the interests of the education export industry.
