China is New Zealand's largest source market for international students. Recent growth from China has seen the number of first time visas accepted by Immigration New Zealand increase by 88%. Chinese education agents are experiencing strong interest in New Zealand education from their clients; this growth is certainly becoming evident in the student visa statistics.
The regions of strongest growth are the northeast (Beijing and Qingdao), eastern China (Hangzhou) and the south (Guangzhou).
In March 2012 Education New Zealand will be revisiting these regions to continue to grow and encourage students from these regions to study in New Zealand.
Education New Zealand will organise a series of New Zealand Education promotional events in four key cities in China. New Zealand institutes will be showcased through a 'New Zealand Inc' collaborative approach. Attending these events will provide participants the opportunity to raise their profile, recruit students, maintain relationships and meet with active agents.
The Mission is made up of seven events; an international fair, where coordinated New Zealand branding ensures that New Zealand stands out from our competitors, three New Zealand Education Fairs and three Agent Seminars.
The Beijing Agent Seminar will be the start of the mission and will be held in the afternoon of Friday 9th March, the seminar is a good opportunity to break into the market as it helps establish new agent contacts.
The session includes one on one 'speed dating' style meetings, and is relevant for all education sectors. The seminar will be followed by a cocktail function, officiated by the New Zealand Ambassador to China (TBC).
