Conference: Counting Down....

All preparations are in place for the industry’s annual conference next week.  Reflecting the quality of the programme, demand for registrations has been high and we will shortly be reaching venue capacity.

Some late notices...

· Accommodation: It has been tight in Christchurch, but a few rooms that have just become available, at the Ibis (Hereford St, just a few minutes walk down the High St Mall) and Cranford Oaks Motel. Visit our Accommodation page for contact details.
· Early Bird: Today is the last day! No ifs, buts or maybes....
· Wednesday Schools Sessions: Topics are set down as Organisation, Marketing and Pastoral Care (more info in the programme online). These sessions have been developed by schools for schools and will be led by schools - should be interesting!
· Wednesday Other than Schools: Don't worry, you haven't been forgotten  - Code, Trans-national Best Practice, Immigration, EEIP, Marketing Strategies (The Guhr Report), Brand Workshops, Benchmarking Survey (this one is Unis only - the full presentation for all interested is Thursday).

Viet Nam Update

Student Visa issues relating to Viet Nam have been a hot topic over the last months. Alan Barry and the wider 'NZ Inc' Immigration team have been working hard to shape a more responsive student friendly environment for the country.

Alan notes:
"We enjoyed meeting so many Providers and Education Agents during the June 2007 Education Fairs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.  This gave the opportunity for some good discussions about the  various issues and ongoing concerns surrounding student visa processing in Vietnam...What has changed?..We do not require so many documents and a new checklist, distributed at the Education Fairs is attached to this communication.

For example we no longer require applicants to provide copies of their CV or household registration book.

We have reduced the documents required to show the student has evidence of funds to support themselves in New Zealand.  A more liberal view of funds will be taken for High School applicants given that fees and living costs are paid before the visa is issued."

A full copy of the changes and new regulations is available HERE

A big vote of thanks to Alan and the NZ team for the work they are doing. As with all immigration policy, it is 'a work in progress' but these are important steps in a market we are all trying to energise.

The South East Asia Advisory Group is meeting on Wednesday, and will consider depth promotions in Viet Nam. We had developed an exciting plan for a mobile roadshow, but the overall cost of the concept when properly developed has resulted in this project being cancelled on cost grounds.  However, following the Fairs and the well supported Agent Forums in June we will be raising the profile of New Zealand in the months ahead.
