PACE 2006
There are not many activities left in the 2006 PACE programme, However, we have two activities with a few spaces still available.

Organisation of those that are left is well underway and registrations have been closed.  However, we have one activity with a few spaces still available:

  • New Zealand & Ireland Education Fair, Tokyo, Japan

2 & 3 November
The November Fair in Tokyo is quickly approaching and we encourage you to consider promoting your institution under the NZ Inc banner in our 3rd strongest market.

This fair will be will be a collaboration between New Zealand and Ireland and is open to all sectors.

The dates are 2 and 3 November, the 3rd being Culture Day - a public holiday for the Japanese. This fair is being financially supported by NZTE.

More information is available HERE or contact Laurette at ENZ.
To register for any of these events, please click HERE

  • Global Education Alternatives Fair, Manila, Philippines
    24 & 25 November
An exciting new PACE activity! Demand for New Zealand education from the Philippines continues to be comparatively modest but consistent, with an increase last  year following and easing the year before. With New Zealand offering competitive tuition fees, quality of education and potential migration opportunities we believe that there are ongoing opportunities to improve New Zealand's penetration into this market.

Statistics and News from Abroad

  • THE PLAYING FIELD – Non-E.U. Enrolments in U.K. Double in Ten Years.
Enrolments from China helped propel total foreign enrolments at British universities from 196,346 in 1995-1996 to 318,400 in 2004-2005, Universities U.K. reported this month. The increase was mostly among foreign students from outside the European Union; their numbers rose by 96 per cent in those years, from 111,480 to 218,395. Of non-E.U. international students in 2004-2005, 52,675 were from China.
Half of the student body in taught postgraduate programs now consists of international students, and nearly half (46 per cent) of the student body doing postgraduate research.
The numbers, said Universities U.K., point to the significant financial dependence of British universities on international students.

  • OVER THE COUNTER – Australian Growth Slows
The number of international students at Australian universities grew by 4.8 per cent last year—moderating the country’s previous feverish rates of 8.6 per cent (2004) and 17.7 per cent (2002). Australian universities (both onshore and offshore) attracted 239,495 foreign students in 2005, 10,956 more than in 2004, according to data released recently by the Australian federal government.
Education Minister Julie Bishop said increased education spending in Asian countries was one of the reasons for the tapering off of growth. The slowing, she said, is likely to continue as these countries continue to invest in their higher education systems.
Earlier this month, Ms. Bishop announced that graduates of Australian universities will soon have supplements attached to their diplomas. The measure is intended to help graduates with their job searches and boost Australia’s competitiveness as an international educator.

  • The Australian juggernaut rolls on in other sectors as well. The Vocational Ed sector showed major growth compared to 2005 – around 25%. English language was also up sharply. On the other hand, the schools sector was static. China continues as Australia’s Number 1 market, with 24% of all international students being Chinese. India is next, at 10% of the total market
