PACE

Still plenty more activity in PACE this year!

When you register for PACE events, the ENZ Marketing Team member will send through a weblink to access confirmation, consolidated consignment information, accommodation and event information.  This essentially replaces the Information Bulletin from past events.

In the events it has already been used for it has proved to be a great method - saving time and effort for all.  Thank you for patience as we all get used to using the new system.

Below are the PACE Marketing Events for the rest of the year

New Zealand Education Fairs, India
1st – 14th September
This two week series of fairs covers the 7 cities of Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata. India is currently primarily a tertiary market, with fairly equal numbers of students going to universities, ITPs and private tertiaries.  With significant New Zealand generic promotion in India throughout 2005, now is a good time to be promoting your institution.  More information available HERE or contact Laurette
**  A new India Market Report for Secondary schools is now online HERE **

Expoingles, SantiagoChile
7 - 9 September
Organised by the Chilean Education Agents' Association, AREI, Expoingles is a good option for English Language, Tertiary and Secondary Schools looking to market in Chile. As in 2005, a New Zealand pavilion is being organised for participants and NZTE are providing financial support. More info HERE or contact Karen

Expoingles, BogotaColombia
16 September
A new PACE event for South American marketers, tying in with Expoingles Chile a week earlier, this makes a convenient second stop on your South American marketing tour. More info HERE or contact Karen

Taiwan Virtual Fair
Starts 2nd October
The March Virtual Fair was a great success, with over 250,000 clicks registered over a two month period. Accordingly, there has already been a lot of interest shown in the follow up October fair.   This is internet (generic NZ and institutional) advertising, and is being financially supported by NZTE. For more information, click HERE or contact Jill

CEAIE Fairs, China
14 - 29 October
The 2006 China Education Expo 2006 (CEAIE) Fairs will be held in six cities across China in October.  The cities included are Beijing, Harbin, Chengdu, Shanghai, Nanjing and Shenzhen.  China continues to be New Zealand’s largest market, and these Fairs are at the front end of the ‘NZ Inc’ presence and an important part of the overall presence.  The cost for each fair is currently being finalised, so if you're interested please check the website regularly for updates HERE or contact Jill

Inbound Hong Kong Agents visit New Zealand
8 - 17 October
The Hong Kong agents have attracted a lot of interest already - so if you're keen to take part in this visit, please get in quick!  More info HERE or contact Laurette

Inbound Spanish Agents visit New Zealand
8 - 17 October
Looking to diversify your markets?  How about Spanish students? Numbers are currently very modest, but there is real interest coming through from agents. The list of Nominated Agents is already online and their interests cover Secondary, English Language and university courses.  See more info HERE or contact Karen

New Zealand Education Fair, Vladivostok, Russia
25 October
New to PACE this year is the Vladivostok Fair. The make up of Russian students is expected to move towards students requiring full tertiary education rather than shorter-term English language studies.  Courses most popular among Russian students are hospitality, business and computing. NZTE are financially supporting this event, the participation cost is currently being finalised, so if you're interested please check the website regularly for updates HERE or contact Karen

Australia New Zealand Joint Fair, Seoul, South Korea
28 & 29 October
Korea is the second largest source of students to New Zealand and this popular weekend fair still draws thousands of students looking to study in New Zealand.  This multi-sector market now has a fair open to all New Zealand institutions.  Previously there were restrictions limiting primary and intermediate schools, however this has been lifted and all are invited to participate.  More info HERE or contact Karen

New Zealand & Ireland Education Fair, Tokyo, Japan
2 & 3 November
In 2005 a collaborative fair featuring tertiary institutions from New Zealand, Canadian and Irish tertiary institutions was trialled with much success.  Based on that inaugural event, this year the fair has been opened up to all sectors to participate, and will be a collaboration between New Zealand and Ireland.  The fair is being held in Tokyo on 2 & 3 November, the 3rd being Culture Day - a public holiday for the Japanese.  It is being financially supported by NZTE.  Based on the success of last years' fair we already have a good number of registrations from our tertiary sector, and encourage Secondary Schools and English Language Schools to also give this activity consideration. More information is available HERE or contact Laurette

OCSC Fair, Bangkok, Thailand
11 & 12 November
The Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) is arranging its Education Expo for the third time this year in Bangkok.  The 2005 OCSC Education Expo received approximately 35,000 visitors for the two-day fair, so it's certainly one to consider if Thailand is one of your target markets.  Education New Zealand in conjunction with NZTE Thailand will be organising a New Zealand pavilion at the fair - more information is available HERE or contact Jill

‘Waves’
Film maker Li Tao has just completed a documentary about 4 Chinese students at Hutt Valley High School. She follows the lows and highs of there experiences, and the different reactions they have as their time unfolds.

This documentary will be featuring at the New Zealand Film Festival this year, and has already received quite a bit of media coverage. The Film Festival describe it as ‘one of the richest, most absorbing films you are likely to see this year’.

News from abroad
Britain: The changes that Vice Chancellor Hood is seeking to bring to the hallowed halls of Oxford are continuing to send ripples through the conservative world of Britain’s academia.

The Chronicle of Higher Education recently ran a major story reporting on the various responses to Mr Hoods initiatives, ranging from supportive to downright condemnatory. Whilst there seems to be general agreement that some degree of reform or progress is needed if Oxford  is to retain pre-eminence, opinions certainly differ as to the way in which the Vice Chancellor is going about the task. Canada: Meanwhile, the language industry in British Columbia is also causing some concerns.

In an article entitled ‘Classroom Chaos’, the British Columbia Business Magazine declared that ‘British Columbia’s private education industry gets a falling grade’. Precipitated by yet another language school going bust the article noted that ‘the schools collapse was far from an isolated event’.
Maybe our media could follow up on some more of these stories…
