New Zealand Undergraduate Study Abroad Awards
Please note that the application process for the New Zealand Undergraduate Study Abroad Awards has changed.
In the past, institutions have asked the candidates to complete a ‘Student Authorisation Form’ and these have been forwarded to Education New Zealand together with copies of all documentation relating to the students’ exchanges. From today onwards, candidates will be required to complete the NZUSAA Application form in order to register their interest.
Applications are not to be submitted directly to Education New Zealand, instead the candidates’ completed forms are to be submitted to the Student Exchange Manager/Coordinator at the institutions they attend and institutional nominations must be accompanied by supporting documents as listed in the attached NZUSAA Nomination Guidelines.
The nomination due date of 1 May and 1 November each year remain unchanged.
Students can access the new application form and amended Terms & Conditions via the ENZ Scholarships website. The NZUSAA information held on the BreakOut Database (www.fis.org.nz) has been amended to reflect the change in process. If your institution has listed information about the NZUSAA on your website, please ensure that the details are also updated.

Spanish Government Scholarships
Earlier this year, ENZ notified industry members (E-News: 26 March) of the Spanish Government’s scholarship scheme that offered up to 53,000 scholarships for Spanish students to study English overseas.
The scholarship campaign recently finished for the year and ASEPROCE agencies granted an estimated 35,000 scholarships to 22,400 students. Of those 22,400 students, 41 were awarded funding to attend a New Zealand institution but it is thought that each of these students stayed longer than three weeks.
ASEPROCE, the industry representative of education agents in Spain, established a special website www.becasmec.org, which had over 1,000 visits per day and 100,000 visits in total to July 2007 (end of enrolment period). Education New Zealand paid for a prominent feature on the main site’s destination link: www.becasmec.org/destinos.htm |
