1. Conference 2008: Latest Information

The 17th Annual New Zealand International Education Conference will be held in Auckland from 6 to 8 August at the Langham Hotel.

Registrations for the conference will be opened in early April. Registration options and rates for this year’s conference will be circulated in an upcoming e-news.

There are a number programme highlights:

• I-Graduate research findings for ELS and ITP sectors
• Release of EEIDF research  
• Ministry of Education policy updates
• Web workshops – best practice, using www.newzealandeducated.com and Web 2.0 strategies
• Workshop Wednesday programme – a full day programme with focused sessions for all sectors.

The annual International Education Excellence Awards will also be announced at the conference.

2. New Zealand International Scholarships and Study Abroad Awards

New Zealand Postgraduate Study Abroad Award

The New Zealand Postgraduate Study Abroad Awards (NZPSAA) are available to postgraduate students enrolled in either doctoral or master’s degree programmes at a New Zealand institution, whose research programme would benefit significantly from a short-term period of study or research abroad. New Zealand postgraduate students may apply for funding to cover up to six months of study or research abroad in the following categories:

  • seminars, workshops or courses
  • conferences, if the attendee is presenting a paper
  • cooperative research with researchers abroad
  • independent research at facilities not available in New Zealand, like research institutes and libraries.

New Zealand Undergraduate Study Abroad Award

The New Zealand Undergraduate Study Abroad Awards (NZUSAA) are available to New Zealand undergraduate students who wish to complete part of their qualification overseas. They are available to students enrolled at universities, institutes of technology and polytechnics.
The scholarship is a one-off payment meant to contribute to costs relating to the exchange or study abroad programme, and not to fully cover those costs. No funds are available for accompanying dependants.

Candidates for the NZUSAA must be nominated by their home institution and may not apply directly to Education New Zealand. Students who wish to be considered should contact the Student Exchange/Study Abroad Manager at their home institution.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarship

The New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) are open to all international students who meet the eligibility criteria. There is no age limit or academic discipline criteria. The scholarship includes:

  • full tuition fees for three years of full-time doctoral study
  • living allowance
  • health insurance allowance
  • travel allowance for conference attendance and field work
  • book and thesis allowance

3. Request for Proposal - Economic Impact Analysis of Export Education


ENZ is inviting the submission of Proposals from organisations interested in undertaking a project to research and report on the economic impact of export education, including the onshore and offshore student-related revenues and the sale of education goods and services.

The RFP is an open tender and has been advertised on www.gets.govt.nz and HERE on our website

Expressions of Interest (EoI) for Round 8 of the Export Education Innovation Programme (EEIP), administered by Education NZ, are now invited.

4. PACE 2008

New Zealand Education Fairs, Thailand, 14 – 17 June 2008

The New Zealand Education Fair series in Thailand and Vietnam are a flagship NZ marketing event. The programme of fairs and networking functions provides plenty of opportunities for marketers to raise their profile, recruit students, and develop relationships with active agents and relevant education officials in this important market. Last years’ Thai fair series recorded over 3,400 visitors. The dates are Chiang Mai – 14 June, Bangkok – 15 June, Phuket - 17 June, with the main function and briefing session being held in Bangkok prior to the fairs on Thursday 12th June.

New Zealand Education Fairs, Vietnam, 20 – 23 June 2008

Following on from the series in Thailand, the Vietnamese events include both fairs and agent seminars in both of the main cities. Last year the two fairs welcomed 1,400 Vietnamese visitors interested in New Zealand education.
