Education New Zealand is a not-for-profit charitable trust that is governed by the New Zealand export education industry, and is committed to an ‘NZ Inc’ approach to the export of New Zealand’s education services offshore. ENZ is recognised by the New Zealand Government as the umbrella industry body for education exporters in New Zealand. The organisation is governed by an independent Chairperson and Board of Trustees that are elected by an Electoral College of New Zealand institutions who are signatories to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students in New Zealand. The staff of ENZ is a small, professional and highly committed team that works with industry and stakeholders to achieve the aims and objectives of the organisation. History
1988 New Zealand Education International Limited (NZEIL) was established as an education Joint Action Group and a subsidiary of the New Zealand Trade Development Board 1991 Government funding shifts from Trade New Zealand (for offshore New Zealand Education Centre network) to Ministry of Education (for generic promotion) 1998 NZEIL membership becomes by subscription only 1999 Education New Zealand established 2000 Offshore marketing partnership with Trade New Zealand is established 2003 Education New Zealand moves away from a membership based club to become a pan industry body 2004 Government formally recognises Education New Zealand as the industry body for export education in New Zealand Strategic Relationships
Education New Zealand has a range of strategic partnerships and relationships that support the organisation and reinforce its industry mandate. ENZ and the New Zealand Ministry of Education have a partnership for the support of Export Education Industry Development Activities. The Agreement provides Ministry support for the range of initiatives delivered by the ENZ. ENZ and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise signed a formal agreement in 2006 to continue the partnership formed in 2001. Under the terms of the new agreement, ENZ is responsible for promoting New Zealand as a destination for international students and has access to NZTE resources overseas to help carry out these promotions. In addition to the formalised partnerships with Ministry of Education and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, ENZ also has a range of other strategic relationships with key agencies including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Tourism New Zealand and the Department of Labour (Immigration New Zealand). Internationally, ENZ has a range of partnership agreements and arrangements in place with organisations throughout the Asia-Pacific, the Americas and Europe. |
